As avid cooks who love entertaining and entertaining, they kept a special focus on the kitchen. They located the original floor plan housed in Columbia University's Avery Architectural Library and peeled back its layers to restore the original layout. They partnered with USM Modular Furniture on the cabinetry, with the goal of upcycling discarded storage units from other projects rather than manufacturing new modules from scratch.
Today, the house not only serves as a permanent base for its owners, but also operates as an artistic hub and bookable residence for creatives from all walks of life. “Combining our passion for great food and meaningful design, we wanted to highlight the kitchen,” says Jeremy. “It really is the heart of the house.”

Before: “The kitchen definitely had an expiration date,” Jeremy says of the last kitchen, which featured many quirky designs, including linoleum floors and awkwardly angled countertops. “There was no access to the kitchen through the outside door, and the whole design and material choice felt very '80s to him,” adds Jiminy.
Inspiration: “Jeremy and I have been discussing how to approach the design of our kitchen for over a year. We had always dreamed of a USM kitchen, but never thought it could become a reality. “There was no one there,” Jiminy says. A chance encounter with USM's head of marketing was a turning point for both of them. Collaboration began immediately.

cabinet: “While we knew the kitchen wasn't the focal point of a modernist home, we also recognized that metal, steel, and wood were essential to the architecture,” says Jeremy. To stay true to these materials while minimizing their environmental impact, the pair worked with his USM Modular Furniture to create a cabinetry scheme using only upcycled materials. “We were lucky to have what was available. The gray panels reflect the home's original interior color, and the pops of green connect with our living spaces and surrounding environment. .
