A familiar face that sold bread at the Menlo Park Farmers Market in 2018 has added a brick-and-mortar location on Santa Cruz Avenue in 2022, Little Sky Bakery. And now, Tian Meiming (pictured left) has quietly opened a cafe, Little Sky Kitchen. Menlo Center across the street from the bakery. Oh, and in the process, she was able to give birth to two children, now 5 and 2 1/2 years old.
“The space here was turnkey, which was great,” she says. “We've since added an outdoor lantern and dining table.”
Her target customers are people who don't have time to cook and don't go out or find it difficult to go out. She serves a blend of French, Italian, and Northwest Asian cuisine, all made from scratch in small batches.
Peeking into one side of the showcase, you'll find items suitable for brunch or lunch, as well as slices of her delicious cakes. The companion case contains more dinner-like items, such as fried chicken or roasted chicken with assorted vegetables.
“If you have a concept, it's like going to your friend's house and eating whatever you have to eat, except you have more options,” she says. “It’s not fancy food, it’s just good home-cooked food.”
The highlight of this cafe's first few weeks has been meeting familiar faces at the market as well as meeting new people, like today when we visited.
“People in this community have dietary needs, and it is our goal to meet their needs.”
Little Sky Kitchen is currently open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
