Another store has opened along Woodward Avenue in New Center, offering some of the city's essential retail options for home décor, furniture, accessories and more. Urbanum recently opened along the corridor as one of many new businesses slated to open at the new center.
The store sells a variety of items, from gifts like mugs and candles to larger decorative items like light fixtures, custom furniture and textiles. It's the only Regina Andrew Design dealer in the Detroit area, and also stocks furniture from Lee Industries, fabrics and bedding from Malouf Z, lighting from Visual Comfort & Co., and frames and homeware from his Mutual Adoration in Detroit.
Basically, if you want something to spruce up your home or opt for a larger design, you have options.
The store was run by Brigid Beaubien, whose family was one of the first to arrive on the Detroit coast in 1701 with Antoine de la Mote Cadillac. Brigid and her husband Tim Costello also operate 8 Degrees Plato in Midtown and Ferndale. .
“Creating a feeling of home is one of the most important emotions in the world. We want our customers to be able to express themselves in their own way and create a sense of comfort and hospitality in their own home. We want to be able to do that,” Beaubien said.
The store will hold a grand opening party on Wednesday, October 24th from 5:30 to 8:30. The party will benefit Humble Design, which helps families escape homelessness by providing decorations and furniture. The public is welcome to attend the event, but must register.
Urbānum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
