Is it as easy as enjoying a kitchen disco every Friday morning on Chris Evans' morning show? Now it has its own show!
Every Saturday from 6pm Virgin Radio Anthem Host Rich Williams will be bringing you disco and party tunes to get you excited for the weekend.
Ahead of The Kitchen Disco premiering on Virgin Radio Anthems tonight (October 7), host Rich runs through all his favourite party hits that will have you hitting the dance floor – or kitchen tiles – in no time.
“For me, the power of music is the memories that a particular song evokes. Growing up in the '80s, my dad had a variety of tapes that he would play in the car while my sisters and I sat in the back seat of the car, fighting for position to avoid the middle seat.
“Alongside musical albums, Celine Dion, and Queen (I told you so!), my dad would often play Billy Ocean. Any fighting in the back seat would quickly stop and we'd all sing along to 'Love Really Hurts Without You' and songs from Billy Ocean's amazing first album.”
“There was a disco-style 70s themed club night in Leeds (where I live) and everyone was wearing flared trousers, wide-collared shirts and really dodgy shoes.
“I remember heading there with some friends one Saturday night when I'd just turned 18. I clutched my ID in case the security guard would likely question my age, due to my modest ability to grow a '70s moustache. Once inside, we were treated to several hours of '70s music and the worst dancing in the history of mankind. And the name of the night was… Love Train.”
“I'm a big football fan and I've always admired how certain songs are adapted for chants on the terraces, usually using the original tune but changing the lyrics to suit a particular fan's favourite footballer.”
“This song is taken to an even higher level by football fans, especially Tartan Army fans, who belt out the original version of this song. It's an absolute classic and one that will have you singing along even louder as soon as it starts.”
“One of my favorite things to do is play music in the kitchen and teach my kids that music was around before they were born. Who would have thought? Everybody Dance is one of the songs I've always played for my kids since they were little.”
“Everyone loves it, and when we're all singing along to Chic and trying to perfect the handclap parts (you know what I mean!), kitchen disco magic happens!”
“Would you believe me if I told you I know all the words to this song? Honestly, I do. It's my favorite party anthem, dance floor staple, and karaoke favorite all rolled into one.”
“And in a way, the line in the first verse, 'Bang bang boogie, jump the boogie, move to the rhythm of the boogie, move to the beat', perfectly embodies the feeling you get from listening to a kitchen disco. There's no show without this lyric… Get the lyrics in advance and see if you can sing them right!”
Virgin Radio Anthems' Kitchen Disco kicks off this weekend (Saturday, October 7th) at 6pm.
