What makes a recipe truly great? delicious?
Here are some of our favorite classic recipes. Mac & Cheese, Creamy Tuscan Chickenand Beef and broccoliand give it a Delish-level of love. That means our recipes will save you a few minutes of your time, teach you some fun tricks, and even work miracles by letting you cook everything in one pan instead of three, because washing dishes is the worst.
“Approachability” is of utmost importance to us. Every recipe we develop embraces and celebrates the idea that everyone has the right to eat delicious food, regardless of their culinary skill level. Of course, some recipes are more complicated (or easier) than others. Either way, we want our readers to not only be able to make every recipe we publish, but also encourage all their friends to make them. We continue to make food that is fun, playful and resourceful beyond the written recipes themselves; that shows in our recipe photos and videos. Our goal is to make cooking enjoyable for everyone.
But what we really pride ourselves on is our imagination when it comes to cooking. We spend a lot of time coming up with new and exciting approaches to everyday foods. That's why we're the most fun cooking site on the Internet. Francesca's Recipes and More Plenty of tornado potatoesBrooke Spicy Mango Whipped Goat Cheeseand internet famous Marry Chickenis bold and truly special in every sense of the word. Rice pudding Delish has added its own twist: they use ice cream instead of the usual cream/milk/sugar template. This innovative twist allows the flavor to shine and also acts as a shortcut. Delish has developed a great recipe that is different from others and shows the creativity and innovation of their team.
How does Delish choose the recipes it features?
Our culinary team comes up with hundreds of new recipe ideas every month, based on everything from seasonality to pop culture trends (we had our eye on Beyoncé's new album when we came up with this recipe). Beyhive BelliniIdeas and concepts are reviewed by every member of the Delish team, including our editorial director, and once the perfect combination is chosen, our recipe developers bring it to life.
What does a recipe developer do?
Delish recipe developers have a high level of culinary skill and knowledge. They transform difficult or complicated cooking methods into simple and manageable recipes for cooks of all levels. For example, making croissants is not easy, but our recipe developers present it in the most understandable and approachable way so that everyone will want to try it. Surprisingly, recipes with few ingredients, like Makinze, can be difficult to make well. Khums This recipe has some creative twists.
How does Delish test new recipes?
Once a recipe developer presents us with a recipe, we evaluate it and then make it again for at least 3-5 food team members for further testing and evaluation. We look at taste, texture, preparation method, ingredient availability, presentation, etc. This rigorous testing ensures that every recipe we publish is of the highest quality and one our readers can trust.
When it comes to recipes, precision and clear instructions are essential. First, we're honest and upfront with our readers (i.e., our “friends” at Delish) about how important certain steps are. For example: Chopping or cooking onions incorrectly can change everything about the finished dish. If our world-famous recipe tells you to chop and saute tomatoes, Spaghetti saucewe try to be very specific about how long it will take to get the onions to the perfect texture (7 minutes, by the way). We also believe in simplifying our recipes to require as few pots, pans, and utensils as possible. We also always keep cleanup in mind. If these requirements and details aren't met, we start again.
There are often many variables that go into whether a recipe works or doesn't work (hence the “test” part). Also, developing a great recipe requires a lot of experimentation. timeFor example, our fabulously classic Chocolate Chip Cookies It took about 75 hours to complete, and when you're creating one of the most popular recipes on the planet, you want to get it right and get it the best.
Delish Kitchen also hosts formal and informal tasting sessions. Once a week, we prepare a few recipes and invite staff from all Hearst brands to taste them and share their feedback. Informally, we keep testing recipes throughout the day, and any member of the Delish team can give their opinion.

When will the recipes be available to the world?
Once a recipe is perfectly developed, sharing it with the world is a collaborative effort. Once our Food Director approves the recipe, our Associate Recipe Editor and Senior Food Editor work closely together to make sure the recipe is visually appealing according to our style. We then begin planning how to bring the recipe to life through photos and videos.
A key player in our process, our Visual Director oversees the photo shoots of up to 20 recipes a week at our Delish Kitchen Studios. Her meticulous attention to detail ensures that the visuals adhere to our Creative Director's brand standards, using the meltiest cheeses, the most beautiful garnishes, and everything our audience wants to see. Meanwhile, our Video Producer is also in the mix: Recipe videos are shot both onsite and for social (we create over 100 videos and social clips each month), and the Producer ensures that the visuals of the food match the photos and that the process comes to life clearly on camera.
Once you have all the ingredients, our Food Production team will upload photos, videos, and write a recipe description. Once you're done, you hit the publish button and your new Delish recipe is available for the world to enjoy. To celebrate the recipe we created, our Audience Development team will share it with our 34 million+ followers. Tick tock, Instagram, Pinterestand Facebookand in our newsletter (sign up here).
