bear In season 3, fans are wondering about the hidden meaning behind the term “C-fold.”
Since 2022, the FX and Hulu culinary drama has been taking audiences into the chaotic world behind the scenes of professional kitchens.
Whether that is so or not, “corner,” “Yes, chef.” or “Mirepoix” Fans watching learned some of the technical jargon and industry lingo needed to work in a top-tier kitchen.
What is Bear's C-fold?
As mentioned above bear In season three, the term “C-fold” confused viewers who didn't know what it meant.
At the end of season 3, episode 7 (subtitled “Legacy”), Abby Elliott's Natalie “Sugar” Belzatto goes into labor while lifting what the rest of the Kitchen-Based cast calls a box of C-Folds to her car in the Restaurant Depot parking lot.
It triggers a key moment in the series as Natalie, whose pregnancy was a key storyline point in season two, finally gives birth to her baby.
But she does so without the people who matter most to her: After not telling her mother, Donna (Jamie Lee Curtis), about the baby for months, she is forced to call her mother and ask her to come pick up the baby when her husband, Pete (Chris Witaske), goes on a trip with some male friends and Carmie (Jeremy Allen White) and the rest of Bear's staff are in the middle of a packed dinner service.
This forces Natalie to confront her mother, whom she had been avoiding and distrusting for several years prior to the start of the series.
For those who don't know, the C-fold is not only what helped induce Natalie's labor, but it's also something you can find in just about every restaurant across America.
These are rough, brown, tri-fold paper towels that the user places inside the dispenser to pull down.
Although it doesn't say “C-fold” on the box, it is colloquially called a “C-fold” in professional kitchens because when you unfold it a little it forms something like a C.
One might wonder why a fine dining restaurant like The Bear would need cheap paper towels like those that come in a box of C Folds, when they know that a newly opened restaurant will provide every guest with a proper linen napkin once they're seated.
Well, they're probably for the restrooms on the premises (C-folds are often used to refill paper towel dispensers in public restrooms) or for the back kitchen, where cleanliness and hand-washing are essential.
Who would have thought that a cheap paper towel would add to the ineffectiveness of such a heavy, emotionally charged scene? bear Season 3?
