British passenger Geoffrey Kitchen died after a Singapore Airlines flight from London encountered severe turbulence and had to make an emergency landing in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday. The Boeing 777-300ER, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, was en route to Singapore when it suddenly encountered extreme turbulence. According to Reuters, the plane experienced a dramatic descent of 6,000 feet in just three minutes, killing one passenger and injuring more than 30 others.
Jeffrey Kitchen, 73, reportedly died of a heart attack during the chaos. Kitchen was on what his family describes as his “last big vacation” with his wife when the incident occurred.

1. Geoffrey Kitchen was originally from Bristol and had lived in a semi-detached house in Thornbury, Gloucestershire for most of his life, the Guardian reported.

3. Mr. Kitchen founded the Thornbury Musical Theater Group. According to the outlet, he was an active participant in Dick Whittington's pantomime last Christmas, and the group has two productions scheduled for this year. He was advocating for the reopening of Thornbury's Armstrong Hall, which was previously used for theatrical performances.
4. Mr Kitchen and his wife Linda were on holiday when they boarded the ill-fated flight from London's Heathrow Airport on Monday night. According to the Guardian, she was one of the passengers taken to hospital in Bangkok.
5. Mr. Kitchen's neighbor disclosed that the 73-year-old Mr. Kitchen had a history of heart disease. He recently had surgery to insert a stent (a small tube) to widen his artery and improve blood flow. Mr Kitchen is survived by a son who runs a window cleaning business, his daughter, who lives in Wales, reported.
