For the longest time, I thought it was impossible to truly enjoy cooking in a tiny kitchen with so little storage or counter space. vertical Space. Now I can't stop bringing shelving into my kitchen, whether it's stackable countertop shelves, cabinet shelving, or my absolute favorite kitchen shelving, the Seville Classics 5-tier standing storage unit.
For years, I resisted bringing such a large shelving unit into my room. This tiered rack was almost as tall as my refrigerator and was not what I would call “pretty”. Before moving it, I thought it would just be an eyesore, but it actually had the opposite effect. This standing shelf keeps all my kitchen tools organized, visible, and easily accessible. It saves a ton of counter and cabinet space, especially for all my bulky countertop appliances, like my Galaxy microwave and toaster oven. It also helps organize shelf-stable cooking ingredients, cereals, and snacks.
I can't imagine what my counters would look like or how my kitchen would function without this metro style rack. Not only does it help with organization, it's truly the heart of my kitchen. If you're tight on space, you definitely need this rack. Here are my favorites and some other great options:
My multi-tiered kitchen shelves
I've owned and loved the Seville Classics Wire Shelf Rack for four years. After an extensive search, I found this product, with over 20,500 near-perfect reviews on Amazon. It's made from plated steel, has five adjustable shelves, and has wheels that lock it into place. This means you can easily move the unit around at any time (like to reach the power outlet at the back) without it rolling out of place if it gets bumped. Made from industrial-strength metal, each shelf can hold up to 300 pounds. It's one of the sturdiest kitchen shelf racks I've ever come across.
The top shelf (about 5 feet high) holds bread boxes, cereal boxes, and potato chip bags. The middle shelf holds countertop appliances like the microwave, air fryer, food processor, full-size blender, Nutribullet, and waffle maker. The middle shelf also holds cooking ingredients like different types of dried beans, rice, flour, and sugar. The bottom shelf is reserved for extra rolls of paper towels. This shelf basically serves as my pantry and keeps the counters clutter-free. There's also a little space on the floor below, between the wheels, where the Roomba lives.
There are some other good options
If you prefer a smaller rack that's narrower and doesn't take up too much floor space, consider this three-tier unit that I used before upgrading to my current five-tier storage rack. Like the Seville, this rack is also made from plated steel, and each adjustable shelf can support up to 250 pounds. It's basically a smaller version of my current rack without the wheels, and it had enough space for a microwave and snacks. I've had it for about a year and liked it so much that I wanted to make it more spacious in both width and height.
While you may not like the look of a wire rack, a modern rack with sturdy shelves might look more appealing to you. This rack from Yamazaki Home is made from a combination of stainless steel and wood, and each shelf can hold approximately 18 pounds. While it can’t hold as much weight as the Seville Classic shelving unit, it can still hold many of your everyday kitchen essentials and pantry items. This rack is offered in both white and matte black, and there are three different sizes and models to choose from. The 35-inch option has three shelves, while the 67-inch option has five shelves and hooks for hanging towels and utensils. The 67-inch option has three shelves and space for a mini-fridge.
Are you interested in a freestanding storage unit with sturdy shelves? and If you're looking for storage shelving on wheels, look no further than the Ryan 4-tier storage shelf from Urban Outfitters. Made from power-finished steel with optional removable wheels, the shelves can support up to 77 pounds. The design is fun and simple and comes in three colors: white, dark green, and sky blue. It's also available in a 2-tier version in red.
