José Andres, founder of World Central Kitchen, said on Sunday that Israel's invasion of the Gaza Strip appears to have become “a war against humanity itself.”
Israeli forces killed seven NGO aid workers last week, sparking international outrage and President Joe Biden warning that US support for Israel in Gaza may change if he does not do more to address the humanitarian disaster. I threatened not to.
In an interview with CBS News, Andres criticized Israel for the seemingly indiscriminate attack.
“This has been happening for far too long. It's been six months since I've been targeting anything I can think of. [to move]” said the celebrity chef.
“This no longer seems like a war on terror. This no longer seems like a war to defend Israel. It really seems like, at this point, it's a war against humanity itself.”
Israel claims it mistook the World Central Kitchen support convoy for vehicles used by Hamas. The three vehicles that were hit clearly bore the World Central Kitchen logo, but Israel claims its military personnel were unable to identify the logo in the darkness.
Andres said Israel should not be the only one investigating the killings of the team's six international members and one Palestinian.
“We need more information. We need to see more quality video,” he said.
“There were also white cars. That logo is very colorful. Even in the dark, those drones… [see the logos]”
He added that he “doesn't want to believe” that World Central Kitchen was attacked intentionally.
