BUCKTOWN — A popular local brunch chain is closing its Bucktown location this weekend.
York Test Kitchen, 1767 N. Milwaukee Ave., is scheduled to close on Sunday, spokesman Gianluca Pesce confirmed. The restaurant is one of 12 York locations in the Chicago area and is often used as a place for the company to test new coffee drinks and other menu items.
York was founded by Taki Kastanis in 2006 in the South Loop and has expanded throughout Chicago, as well as Indiana, Florida and Texas.
York Test Kitchen opened in 2018 in a mixed development just south of Route 606.
York's statement did not give specific reasons for closing the stores. The company encourages Bucktown customers to visit its Wicker Park restaurant at 1819 W. Division St., which will continue to serve its “most popular” test kitchen dishes and coffee drinks.
“From the beginning, York Test Kitchen has been an exciting journey of culinary exploration and community collaboration. Over the years, our valued customers have played a key role in shaping our innovative menu through their invaluable feedback and adventurous tastes,” said York.
“We'd like to extend a huge thank you to our incredible staff who helped make our vision a reality. Their talent and dedication are the cornerstone of our success, and we're extremely grateful for their contributions and have offered them all positions at York Chicago's other locations.”
No other York stores will close, and the company is preparing to open two more this year in Boynton Beach, Fla., and Las Colinas, Texas, Pesce said in an email.
