If 2023 was the year of earth-toned cabinetry and experimental islands, 2024 is the year for backsplashes to shine. And no feature promotes this movement more than the slab backsplash, a luxurious, celebrity-approved alternative.
This aptly named feature involves the use of a single continuous material (usually stone or engineered quartz) to cover the entire wall space behind the countertop. We've noticed slab backsplashes in the kitchens of the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Stephen and Ayesha Curry, and now Zendaya's apartment in Brooklyn completes that trio, and this one One of our favorite examples ever.

As Davonport explains, the idea of a slab backsplash is leading the way in 2024 design trends, but it also taps into a broader desire to upgrade this feature in general.
“The latest trend sweeping across kitchen renovations is investing in updating the backsplash,” said Melissa Ann Klink, creative director at Harvey Jones. She says, “Whereas before, clients would repaint cabinets or upgrade hardware to showcase the latest fashion trends, now the most impactful changes are replacing the backsplash.'' It is supposed to happen.”
Choosing one marble style item like Zendaya's is one of the most luxurious ways to stay on trend. But Klink explains that you don't have to overspend to give your backsplash the upgrades you want.
“Porcelain is a great choice for backsplashes with its ability to reserve and control the visual involvement of the pattern. If you have the budget, you can place this material in your backsplash with little worry about discoloration. is the perfect spot. Other popular materials like quartz and granite also enhance the color palette and vibrancy of the space.”

Alternatively, you can upgrade the backsplash you currently have for a transformation that takes very little time. “Vivid tile and fresh paint reinvigorate the fresh style,” Klink said. If there's ever a time to make the leap, it's now.
