Tile backsplashes, showers, and flooring will never go out of style, but the layouts and materials we choose have changed considerably over time. When it comes to layout, the options are endless and there's a lot of room for creativity. These are the top tiles his layout ideas the designer says he is trying in 2024.
1. Stripes

Striped decorations have a less-than-perfect reputation in the design world. That's because stripes can be overdone and lean toward kitsch. But done correctly, a striped tile layout in a bathroom or kitchen can add visual interest and fun to the space.
Gratzie Wilson, head of creative at Capietra, said stripes were “in a big way” this year, and were not relegated to “circus striped cushions”.
“Stylish your bathroom with striped tiles and you'll be at the top of the decor charts. You can also get creative with how you create stripes, such as adding layers of stripes in the same room. If you want to go criss-cross and bold, use striped tiles to create a unique pattern, such as a rug effect. Think of it as stripes on top of each other,” Grazzi says.

2. Tile frame

Tile frames, or using tiles to frame design elements, are another creative way to spice up your tile layout, Grazzie says. In this black-and-white bathroom, bold black tiles frame the shower hardware on a smooth white tile background.
“A more subtle method of laying tiles, but with great impact, tiles can be used to emphasize different features in the home, such as brassware in the shower or in the bath. Use the same color as the rest of the room. Choose a tile from your palette or go bold and use even bolder colors,” she says.

“Creative tile installations will be a mainstream interior design trend in 2024 as consumers look to infuse more personality into their homes,” says Audrey, designer and founder of Audrey Scheck Design says Scheck.
Audrey says striped layouts will be big in bathrooms this year, creating impact and design flair. When it comes to kitchen backsplash trends, she notes that vertical and horizontal stacks of tiles “will continue to dominate given their classic and universal appeal.”
Basketweave patterns are another fun way to add interest to simple tiles. Achieve this by alternating two, three or four vertically stacked tiles with the same number of horizontally stacked tiles,” says Audrey.

Emma Berrill says she thinks we'll see custom tile designs in 2024 that combine unique shapes and eye-catching patterns. “It's a step up from herringbone or cross-stitch tile layouts and brings fun and creativity to your space,” she says.
By 2024, color will also be coming, she says, with simple designs and sporadic introductions of brightly colored tiles.
“Imagine blush subway tiles stacked vertically, but every now and then a white tile is thrown into the mix. Nothing too crazy, just some interest,” says Emma.
And in the kitchen, Emma says you can use tiles to create beautiful, personalized murals. She says, “My space has a unique feel, each tile is different from the others, but when they all come together they create a gorgeous image.”
