A DIY fan has shared how she transformed a drab kitchen into a stunning one using bargains from B&Q and Wickes.
All it really takes is a lick of paint and it makes a big difference.
Ruby Ardolino shared her transformation in an online TikTok video.
“Here's how I upcycled my old, ugly kitchen on a budget.”
she said: “First, give it a good scrubbing with sugar soap to make sure there's no oil or dirt left.”
Ruby said she bought the £3.75 Dial Sugar Soap online from B&Q.
she said: “Then I removed the old hardware and filled the holes with the included Ronseal quick-drying filler.”
Some of this is available from Wickes for around £3.25.
Ruby said, “Once this is dry, use sandpaper to smooth the surface.”
It should cost a few pounds at most hardware stores.
she said: “The next step is really important to get a really good primer. I use Zinsser bin primer.”
“I use this all over, and I used one coat, but you can do two if you want. I use Zinsser or co exterior matte on my cupboards. However, it is very durable and I highly recommend it for kitchen cabinets.”

Ruby decided on a dark green color, which was a great contrast to her previous gray cupboards.
she said: She says, “Apply two coats of this with a brush for small treatments, then use a roller to finish larger surfaces.”
Being a DIY fan, she decided to paint the tiles in her kitchen. She hated the original orange cover and decided to paint it white, she said.
she said: “It's a tile paint, but I didn't really like the fake fruity terracotta tiles we had, so I applied two coats.”
“I'm not saying tile paint is a permanent solution, but that's what I'm using for now until I can buy the tiles I actually want.”
As a finishing touch, Ruby decided to change the handles on the cupboard.
she said: She said: “I really wanted to make it look nice. I replaced her handles with antique brass ones.”
In the end, the DIY fan said she was very happy with her transformation.
she said: “This is the finished look. I'm really happy with the result.”
